Works On The Strength Of Strong Emotional Quotient

'Very strong emotional quotient' - This is what goes in the favour of Krrish 3, a film which is pitched as a Superhero tale but has a lot more going for it than just a man trying to save the world. A core expectation from a Rakesh Roshan film is for emotions to strike a chord with the audience and that happens quite successfully in this Hrithik Roshan starrer where fast paced narrative further compliments the mood of the film.

This is not a film where VFX rules the roost and is the beginning and end of it all. Instead, there is a definite storyline to it with certain purpose to the madness that Vivek Oberoi, the villain, indulges in. He has a personal agenda, you know, and pretty convincing as well. So when he surrounds himself with the mutants and the baddies of all shapes and sizes, what with Kangna coming close to being a human, you want to know how he unleashes the terror. Never mind the 'virus and the antidote' angle that was seen in Aazaan a couple of years back, there is a much deeper storyline in the offering.

It is this core story that is established in the first half and then totally nurtured in the second half which ensures that there is no dull moment whatsoever in the film. Oh yes, as a matter of fact there are a few, basically the ones when the songs are playing. But then you are ready to give them a quick skip as the drama and action is so strong that it is served on a platter as a balanced diet that totally satiates you when the end credits start rolling.

However before that happens, there are quite a few key sequences that remain etched in your memory. (Spoilers ahead) Krrish saving an aircraft from crash landing, Vivek spreading havoc Mumbai, Jr. Hrithik finding himself helpless, Sr. Hrithik coming to the rescue and then most importantly, the entire impersonation angle between Kangna and Priyanka which forms a major part of Krrish 3. Later when the startling revelation about Vivek's past is made, you do indulge further into the plot. However this is not the end of it all as there are many more action sequences in a flow that entertain before the film's culmination.

In the middle of this all, Rakesh Roshan makes sure that there several moments of euphoria as well as heartbreaks that keep the viewer's attention. The brief period of lull that one experiences in the first half (especially when on-your-face brand placement goes on to challenge the blatancy with which it was apparent in Hrithik's own Yaadein), is negated by the father-son bonding followed by Hrithik-Vivek confrontation. The pre-climax as well as the climax are the best part of the enterprise that makes one ignore the cartoon-ish stuff (that large tongue mutant is a huge turn off) that threatened to spoil the party.

However, rest assured Roshans can well expect a huge party for them. After all, as Rohit Mehra, Hrithik is just outstanding and is such an endearing character that you actually want to see more of him than the Jr. Roshan who is basically driven entirely by VFX (which by the way is quite good right throughout). Priyanka fits in well into the scheme of the things and her true worth is seen when she is required to change expressions in a jiffy during the second half.

As for Vivek, he may appear as usual in the first half but it is the second half of the film where he brings a sense of realism to his character that works really well. From a lover-boy in Jayantabhai Ki Luv Story to a comic act in Grand Masti and now a true-blue villain akin to Shakaal (Shaan), he does quite well.

Kangna is all set to gain immensely from this role which is her best ever since Tanu Weds Manu. She makes the film her own and does so well that she could well be offered quite a few negative/grey characters from this point on.

Krrish 3 is a film which is not just for the kids and has ample meat for adults too to dig their teeth on. That would ensure that the film carries enough potential to be amongst the Top-3 grossers of the year, which is currently dominated by Chennai Express and Yeh Jawaani Hai Deewani.
